Do you want your vehicle to run for as long as possible? Many car owners would love to get years and years out of their vehicles, but they simply don’t take the proper maintenance services and the care needed to make this happen. Your auto mechanics in Puyallup WA want to offer these basic tips to help you get started on providing proper maintenance and care for your vehicle to help it last for years to come.
Know the Car’s Service Schedule and Follow It
Every brand and model of vehicle is different when it comes to service schedules. Depending on the age of the vehicle, for instance, you may need to get oil changes every 3,000 miles instead of every 5,000 miles, which is the new standard for many vehicles. The owner’s manual for your car should tell you how often certain services need to be done, including tune ups, fluid changes and tire rotations. If you follow this schedule, you’ll be on your way to helping your engine last for many years.
Don’t Rev It on Startup
There’s a popular myth that revving your engine when you first start it up in the morning will help it warm up quicker. But this simple isn’t the case and you could be doing damage to your engine. If your car has been sitting for at least five hours, there is not enough oil in the moving parts. You should let your car idle for about 30 seconds before shifting it into gear to give the oil a chance to lubricate the moving parts in the engine.
Listen for Noises
A car is like the human body. It will sometimes make odd noises when something is wrong. If you think you hear something, turn your radio off and listen closely. Do you hear a ticking noise in the engine? Are the brakes scraping against the rotors? Do you hear something else that’s unusual? At the first sign of a problem, you should take your vehicle to your expert mechanics in Puyallup WA to get it checked out. Catching it early could mean the difference between a minor repair and a major one.
Be Calm
Driving your vehicle smoothly and calmly will help keep the engine operating nicely for many years. However, if you drive erratically and you are constantly giving the acceleration full-throttle from a complete stop, you could wear down the engine quickly. Take a few extra seconds to be calm behind the wheel and you’ll be able to enjoy your vehicle much longer.
